Christmas In Geelong - Opening Night!!! -WhatToDo Geelong Christmas

Geelong’s stunning Floating Christmas Tree returns on Friday 10 November 2017 with a few new surprises when we launch our city’s biggest night of Christmas celebrations.

Families who mark the annual tradition of lighting the tree at the Waterfront will also be treated to the biggest Christmas entertainment line-up yet! It will feature an impressive line-up of entertainment from 7.00pm including the Mik Maks and hosted by Bay FM’s Hayden and Milly.

The lighting of our Floating Christmas Tree will occur at 9pm. Come and help us do the traditional count-down to light the tree!

Following this, head up to City Hall to see our festive Christmas projections which will commence at 9.30pm at City Hall. This year, the creative presentation has been developed by renowned local artist, Matt Bonner.

Again this year, one lucky child will have the chance to turn on Geelong’s Floating Christmas Tree as well. Enter the City’s Christmas colouring competition for your chance to win. (Open to children up to 13 years of age).

Check out the highlights from last year:

Friday 10 November:
7.00pm: Entertainment starts for lighting of Geelong’s floating Christmas tree.
9.00pm: Tree lights up and fireworks display. Catenary star lights up.
9.30pm: City Hall projections start.

For Christmas in Geelong 2017, there are three different shows to experience with the floating Christmas tree!

  1. 10 November to 1 December 2017
  2. 2 December to 25 December 2017
  3. 26 December 2017 to 7 January 2018

Make sure you visit the Waterfront to see them all. Each has a different light show and music production worth catching!

And on all nights except opening night, give us a hand and light our floating Christmas tree – your way! The tree’s interactivity allows kids (of all ages!) to interact with our floating tree, changing the colours, turning the lights on and off.

This event is proudly presented by the City of Greater Geelong – part of the Christmas in Geelong activities.

The City’s floating Christmas tree is proudly supported by GeelongPort, and brought to life by local Geelong companies Hanlon Industries, Total Events and Elstone Diving Services.
