Here’s a few of our favourite Geelongisms for you!

G’Town, G’Banger – an effectionate name for Geelong

Going to ‘town’ – means your going to Geelong city, the CBD, if you say ‘city’ people will mistakenly think you are going to Melbourne

The Grovey – the Grovedale Hotel

The BC – The Barwon Club

GH – Geelong Hotel

Lordy’s – The Lord of the Isles

The Dog – The Barking Dog

The Commo – Commun na Feinne

The Yardz – Saleyards Hotel

*basically just shorten the main word in any pub name and/or slap a Z or an O on the end, and you’ll pretty much have the ‘slang’.

Bay City – Westfield

The ‘other’ one – Market Square

Furphy – OUR BEER – well kinda… a massive multinational company own it, but they invented it at Little Creatures.. We think, maybe.. we aren’t sure but we’ll claim it…
